It’s the Winter Solstice. To be more precise, it’s at 1.30pm Monday, 21st December 2020.
Yes, incredibly already, the days are changing getting lighter earlier by around 3 minutes each morning from now on. Darkness is on its way out and with it I look forward to seeing the back of 2020. It’s the first (and only) time i’ve wished away the year.
As I sit in my cosy, festive house this evening with family and a few drinks, Christmas is approaching. Getting through the year, still healthy enough with a job still intact, I know I’m blessed. It’s been a tough year for many, especially those with businesses. The sacrifices made have been significant. For the rest of us, thinking back it’s hard to imagine how on 23rd March, a Prime Minister came on TV in a live unprecedented address and asked every resident of the UK to remain in their houses in lockdown for months! Who could even have thought that possible back in 2019. Liberties temporarily removed, it was kindness and volunteering which prevailed in 2020.
I’m all too aware from Blantyre Telegraph messages just how many people Blantyre lost due to Covid19 and my thoughts are with all those families. To everybody else, I hope 2020 has not been too difficult and we can all look forward to a brighter, more hopeful future in 2021.
“Wishing you peace, blessings and good health this Winter Solstice night!”
