1972 David Livingstone Centre, Shuttle Row

Pictured here in 1972 is the David Livingstone Centre. Opened to tourists in 1929, the Centre is about to undergo a transformation when an extensive renovation takes place soon. The Shuttle Row building will be closed for a year during the work and when reopened will also feature a large extension on the back, facing out to the Clyde.

In these photos tourists enjoy the surroundings, older and young people alike. The centre looks cared for and whitewashed.

Readers of a certain age, may remember the tearoom that was here, selling ice creams, near the turnstiles , before the current Africa Pavillions gift shop and cafe were built.
