The Hamilton Herald newspaper told of some graffiti vandalism on a wall at Hamilton Palace in February 1892. The rather descriptive article stated:
“Some ‘artist’ was at work on the wall surrounding the Hamilton Palace, last Saturday night. From the Motherwell bridge to the boundary of Hamilton, he adorned the wall with choice figures and mottoes. At first we wondered how in all the world he carried about him sufficient chalk for the great extent of the work; but afterwards observed that the work was made with snow, which became frozen to the wall and quite distinct, was the colouring, textutes and artistry that was employed. The work was an excellent one….. but for the fact that it was marred by one or two vulgarities though few considering the extent of ground covered.”
