1898 Shuttle Row, Blantyre Works

This photo of Shuttle Row, is a first seen online, but is somewhat confusing to me. We’ve often seen images of the circular washhouse which had a dovecot on top of it, adjacent to Shuttle Row, but in this photo, it’s not there on the left!

Dating from 1898, this photo puzzled me for the dovecot IS shown on 1910 map. It either means the date of the photo is wrong, or the washhouse is simply out the picture to the left, a suggestion I think is more likely what happened.

I had always understood the dovecot washhouse to have been demolished when Shuttle Row was made into a museum in 1929.
