Blantyre Project reader is enquiring about the whereabouts of 4 small miniature columns which once formed part of the altar inside the Craighead House Chapel. The columns apparently came from Hamilton Palace. They were about 5ft high, and maybe 10 ins thick, and stood in the private chapel at Craighead House, the SJ retreat. They were installed in c1927, framing the altar and were probably black granite or black marble, with corinthian ie leaf shaped capitals.
The reader who is anonymous at this time asks, “Could I ask if anyone has any idea what happened to them, or where they may be now (if anywhere!)? The mansion was demolished after vandals burned it down, sadly.”
