The Norwegian Evening, 1893

On Friday 24th November 1893, residents of Blantyre were looking forward to a spectacular evening of entertainment.

At the new Church Parish Halls at the corner of Hunthill Road and Main Street, a wonderful concert evening was scheduled, an evening packed to the rafters and ticketed. The subject of the entertainment was to have a Norwegian theme.

Mr W. Couper Tait delivered a lecture on a trip to Norway. Rev C Scrimgeour Turnbull presided and the hall was filled. Lights were dimmed on that winter evening and alongside the lecture illustrations of Norway in limelight view were shown to an interested audience.

Miss Tait, who accompanied Mr Tait then gave 2 renderings of Norwegian songs and also one in English, all in a Norwegian traditional dress, something very much admired.
