Who remembers ‘Bernies Fish and Chip Shop‘, well ‘Bernie’s Fish and Chicken Bar’ to give it its full title. Going back 43 years, this is the north side of High Blantyre’s Main Street at Kirkland Place. I’ve not got notes on this, but if I have this right, I think the owner was Bernard McIlduff (Apologies if I’ve got that wrong). In this photo, it may not have been the best looking wee shop, but at the time, the building was close to being demolished.
Today, this is the stretch of grass between Cemetery Road and Mo’s Premier Shop. The current bus shelter would be in front of this shop, were it still here today. What’s your memories of Bernie’s? When did it first open? Anybody work there?
