1920’s Main Street

This is High Blantyre Main Street in the 1920’s. You would be forgiven for not knowing where this is though, as none of the buildings in this picture exist anymore.

The tenement in the middle, sat directly opposite the junction of Broompark Road. To the right the tenements were once where the Chemist, Jinxy’s Bakery, and Hodgson’s Butchers are now.

A boy cycles along Main Street, outside where Kathy’s shop is now. Two girls, pals with their arms around each other stare into one of the shop windows and a waning horse and cart era slowly gives way to motor vehicles.
