Sometimes I wish i could just jump into that former pond on a hot summers day! Like this dog for example, having the time of his life! Stonefield Public Park has never been the same since this was removed……

Kelly Edgar I remember it well. I used to walk around the wall of the pond and got pushed in it by my cousin Christopher 😂. I also used to love going on the little pedal boats on the pond.

Robert Stewart Disagree with you Paul on this one. The council building house in the park was the beginning of our beautiful public park’s decline. In the sixties the main entrance and the area around the memorial was the town’s pride and joy, it’s now a complete eyesore / dump.
Blantyre Project i’ll give you that, certainly! The arch is overshadowed by housing behind it, no focal point, and lack of gardens is a shame.

John Cornfield It was always manky broken wine bottles all over the bottom but it did have a colony of newts
John Cornfield The council built stonefield park gardens in 77/78 I think and Rab Stewart is right the park was stunning back in the day flowerbeds putting green big chess/ draughts board water drinking faints paddling pool and boating pond it’s desolate now
John Dunsmore At the later stages of it being closed it was full of. Broken glass x in summer time full of. Leches would stick to your. Legs when. Paddling .👎👎👎
Robert McLeod-Wolohan remember it very well, it used to b a boating pond, how times have changed, they have taken all the fun away from the public park, my gran used to take us there when we were kids at easter to roll our eggs lol

Marianne Timmons I stayed accross from the entrance at Station Road, spent many a great day there, lots a scars to, once went into the wee pond and stood on glass and split both my feet open in hospital for 3 days lol. Loved the putting green was a great family treat on a Sunday 😃

Andy Callaghan Sad to see the park now. It was a brilliant (and beautiful) community asset in the 50s and 60s. Spent loads of really happy times down there, especially down the Lily Pond. Why was it called that. There were no lilies and no pond there though a wee stream did run along the bottom of it.
I’d forgotten using bread paper to make the chute slippy LOL.
