The roll lists 8 teachers and 59 former pupils who were involved in the conflict and contains many well known Blantyre surnames. From the list, there are 2 men who were killed, namely Private Edwards Messenger of 16th Scottish Rifles and Private W Scott of 2nd K.O.S.B.
The story goes that this roll of honour was lying in a skip in High Blantyre when passing man Mr. Dunsmuir noticed it sticking out, and saved it from being completely lost. It is highly likely the roll would have once been displayed in the former Calder Street School.

Ray Couston Imagine putting something like this in a skip. People are so careless and disrespectful these days.
