Woodburn Avenue

This photo perhaps dates from the 1930s. Pictured is Blantyre’s Woodburn Avenue, at a time before modern homes. Indeed, back then, only a scattering of homes existed on the northern side of the avenue, plus of course Woodburn House at the end of the cul de sac.

On the south, over the railings was the newly formed Blantyre Public Park. The photo was taken from a position just off Station Road, very near the entrance to Blantyre Station and was the subject of a postcard of the era.

Today, the scene is still very green and tree lined, but modern homes line the side of the road.
