Pictured here in the 1890’s is High Blantyre Main Street looking west. The photo is a good illustration of McKenzie’s Bakery, which was a shop on the lower floor of the tenement on the left. Thank you to Gordon Cook for sharing this photo. It’s one right outside my current home, that I’d never seen before.

Robert McKenzie was born in 1856, outwith Blantyre, and by 1901, he was an established baker in High Blantyre living with his large family. Not to be confused with Rev Robert McKenzie. The building is noted as “Smiths” but presumably he lived close by to his shop, if not above it.
