Dear Paul

Congratulations on an amazing website and documents which never cease to fascinate.

I have been at Bardyke Chemicals for 30 years. I know our location and that of the old colliery is just beyond your boundary, but has always been more closely associated with Blantyre than Cambuslang.

We have long been wondering about the history of a building that was at our road end. It was the corner building of the rows of miner's cottages at the entrance to the colliery and  known as Melville Cottage.

The last entry in the land registry was in 1928 to Miss Margeret Edmonstone Glen Simmons.

I believe it was demolished circa 1972. I was told by Frank Doonin (Junior) before he sadly passed away that in his childhood it had been a Post Office run by a Mrs Smart. (I know this sounds odd - why a post office there?)

I am enjoying piecing together the history of our site which long predates our business, but of course there is the added interest of what has happened to this family still recorded in the land registry.

Are you able to point me in the right direction to try and find out more?

Very many thanks

Duncan Norman
