What a great photo this is! Taken by early photographer David Ritchie, this is his wife and some of his children photographed at High Blantyre.
The ages of the children put the photo around 1908 or so and the location is now identified as the summer seat, formerly beside the Oval Pool at Auchentibber. David at this time lived in Broompark Avenue.
What amazes me is that everybody is so finely dressed considering they are at the upper Calder. However, these were different times with laid out paths to reach this location, which today would be much more of a challenge reaching! The Edwardian styles of white blouses, high up to the neck, large hats, and belts pulled into accent waists are a stark contrast of the blacks and lace of the previous Victorian decade. I suspect this may have been a Sunday family outing or stroll following church.
