1910 At the Oval Pool

This beautiful previously unseen photo was taken by David Ritchie around 1910. A couple of his own children are in the photo. The fashions and styles are very much Edwardian and the location is known.

This is the former Oval Pool near Craigneith, High Blantyre. Wearing their Sunday best the group looks like they’re on an outing in summer months. In the foreground on the right, is the pile of moss covered rocks towards the middle of the pool, from where the fountains came from.

All this area, some 114 years later is now very much overgrown.
