1953 Stoneymeadow

1953 Stoney Meadow from GC

This photo is from 1953 (was that really 66 years ago?!) Looking down from near “Allers Farm” northwards towards the Dalton junction at Stoneymeadow. The little buildings on the right at the junction are no longer there.

At the time, Stoneymeadow Road was the main route from Blantyre to East Kilbride.

Graham Ferguson Remember the petrol station at that junction.Used to stop off there on way to Greenhall nine hole pitch and putt.Walked down Stoneymeadow road from Calderwood EK.This was late sixties.Hamilton road was dual carriageway then.

Jessie Caldow I remember, when we lived in Hamilton we used that road to drive to E.Kilbride. We sometimes stopped to play the nine hole pitch and putt.

Andrew Hamilton Jimmy Callaghan stayed in one house across from the garage he ran a small haulage business, and the house next door was Mrs Young a widower on her own. Her son was Alex Young an Auctioneer at Lawrie and Symington in Lanark
Sandy Wilkie Andrew Hamilton Mrs Young’s late husband was who I referred to as “Sanny” short for Alexander. What was the period that Fergie Watt’s uncle Johnny Watt (always referred to locally as “the Boy”) lived where the garage was, ‘70’s?
Andrew Hamilton Sandy Wilkie John stayed in a caravan at the yard at the rear of the Regent Petrol station, but got a flat in EK village, after the Regent Petrol station it was Texaco
