Thanks to Betty McLean who has shared her father in laws report from 1917.

Written by John Welsh, the headmaster at Calder Street, it’s dated 22nd November 1917. Not so much of a report card, it is more likely a “reference”, possibly even as Thomas McLean went out in the world, perhaps leaving school at only 14 years old. Transcribed here as follows:

“It is a great pleasure to testify to the work and the worth of Thomas McLean born 14th November 1903 and residing at 16 Priestfield Street, High Blantyre. He was admitted to this school, three years ago and has spent two and a half years in the highest department here and now worthily earns the Merit Certificate. His work is sound, thorough and above the average. He is courteous , most obliging and belongs to a most respected family and i have no hesitation whatever in recommending him as an upright, trustworthy and most deserving, capable lad. James Welsh”
