Daniel Crane (68), a Blantyre miner lived on Glasgow Road during the 1920’s.

On Saturday 11th August 1924, that summer evening he had been enjoying some well earned time off work, fishing at Crawford with friends.

As light faded, he boarded a tramcar at Motherwell Cross ready to head home to Blantyre but around 10pm became suddenly unwell on the tram.

The driver thought best to seek medical assistance and diverted the car back to the Power House (the main base for the tram cars in Motherwell). No sooner than the tramcar pulled into the Power House, Daniel Crane died. Heart trouble was later announced as the cause of death.
