1910 Boathouse outside the door

Screen Shot 2017-04-11 at 13.45.37All fruit grown at Boathouse, Blantyre (i.e, Apples, Pears, Plums and various Berry fruits) were stocked in the local shops belonging to the Brown family. The Brown’s shops were located at 83 Main Street, Union Buildings, Uddingston, Baillieston was c/oStark 110 Main Street, and the third was in Bothwell.

After Archibald died in 1912 and then Christina Brown in 1917, Andrew Ford, the husband of one of their girls, took over the shops and put in a manager. The Brown girls had been running the shops and it was felt that by the family that Andrew should have given Jeannie Brown a job. Jeannie is pictured with sister-in-law Mary and brother Robert, Bob around 1915.

A labrador family pet dog sneaks into the photo on the right. Incredible to think this was over 100 years ago and that these beautiful houses are long gone.

Today, if a photographer was standing at that former doorway and turned around to look at the Clyde, they would see this scene captured by Jim Brown in 2013.
