High Blantyre Station 1930s

This photo doesn’t need much explanation. The sign gives it away as the former High Blantyre Railway Station.

Taken in the 1930s, this is the east platform looking north. Behind the sign is Craigmuir Road and the Church. The pedestrian bridge simply linked the east to west platforms. Access to the station was on a sloping road, leading up from Main Street, just outside the Church entrance. Various railway sidings were adjacent to these tracks, serving Blantyre businesses and predominately, Dixon’s coal operations.

The station stopped for passengers in 1945 although freight and goods services continued for some time after. The original picture is below, shared to me some time ago by Robert Brownlie.
