On Saturday 5th June 1935, the fifth Livingstone pageant, took place in the open-air amphitheatre adjoining the Livingstone National Memorial at Blantyre and was carried out by the Boy Scouts and Girl Guides from the districts of Hamilton, Blantyre, Bothwell and Uddingston In all 120 performers were engaged in the production . The Rev. James I. Macnair, the chairman of the Livingstone Memorial Trust, presided. The producer and director of the pageant was Mr George Simpson, organiser of the National Council of the Y.M.C.A., and the episodes depicted scenes and incidents in the life and travels of the famous missionary and explorer. The proceeds were in aid of the Livingstone Memorial Endowment Fund.
The attendance numbered over 2,500. Pictured are onlookers that day, hoping for a glimpse of the Gala Queen.
