A spectacular crash by a bicycle Into an oncoming Motor Car occurred on the Stoneymeadow Road on Saturday 27th July 1935. The fatal road accident occurred in the vicinity of Stoneymeadow, midway between High Blantyre and East Kilbride, on that Saturday night.

James Dyet (49), 82 Sempie Road. Burnbank, Hamilton, who was riding a push cycle towards his home, came into collision with a motor car travelling in the opposite direction. The accident occurred at a curve on the road. Tha cyclist crashed into the side of the car, the mirror of which and the side pane of glass were broken. The police at High Blantyre and a doctor were notified, and were quickly on the scene. They found that Dyet had sustained severe head and body injuries, and he was rushed to Glasgow Victoria Infirmary in the ambulance waggon. His condition was critical, and he died on the morning of Sunday 28th July, leaving a widow and family.
