Renovation of Statue

If you’ve been to the David Livingstone Birthplace grounds lately, you’ll have noticed some improvements going on. Including at and around the Lion Statue, which has had a bit of a makeover.

As well as the new planting around the base of the statue, it’s been cleaned up and renovated. If you look really closely, you’ll see the African Spear and Livingstone’s rifle gun have now been replaced. Missing for many years, those were part of the original design. The planting around the paths discourages climbing up on the statue and of course beautifies the area.

With thanks to Jack Byres for this great photo.

  1. I am so pleased to see the renovation of the statue, last time I saw it, what a pitiful sight it was surrounded by long grass, so covered with moss and dirt. Here’s hoping the vandals will be put off by the plantings, but “a’ hae ma doobts”..??
