David Livingstone Programme

The Scottish National Memorial to David Livingstone opened on Saturday 5th October 1929 with a visit to Blantyre by royalty.

This opening programme, preserved here in good condition outlines what happened that day and was a brilliant souvenir for anybody attending.

The new museum was opened by HRH Duchess of York (the Queen Mother) with an afternoon programme of events and activities. Blantyre Silver Band provided the music and relatives of Livingstone himself attended.

It was a BIG day for Blantyre as the legacy of the famous explorer was saved for future generations. Crowds of estimated 12,000 people attended, one of the largest crowds Blantyre has seen.

With thanks to Alex Rochead for this.
