This building should be familiar to most Blantyre people, for it is still entirely standing. This is the former Blantyre Co-Op Branch 1 on HIgh Blantyre’s Main Street. Now Day Today, Hyper Cyber, the Wee Wool Shop and LM10 Hair. Pictured almost a 100 years ago, I wouldn’t describe this as a tenement so much, but more of a retail emporium of the time.
Next time you see this building, have a look for the Co-Op beehive emblem at the top of the tallest, centre section. What can you tell me about the Co-Op Shops which used to be here?
