It’s been some 91 years since there were tramlines on Glasgow Road. This picture illustrating just how much of the carriageway was once cobbled in Blantyre. This however was a tram stop, outside St Joseph’s Church, the scene at the back still today, very much familiar. To the far right you can just make out the former School/chapel.

The walls and gates of St Joseph’s are one of only a handful of structures that are actually listed in Blantyre, to this very day continuing to be looked after and cared for.
