1920’s Blantyre Priory

How about THIS for a fantastic photo! This is Blantyre Priory some 100 years ago. As you can see even then the priory ruin was a lot more intact than it is today, with visible signs of windows, fireplaces, and holes in the walls which once accommodated timbers spanning floors and upper storeys.

Even in the 1920’s however, nature had a firm grasp of this building, with ivy intertwining between the cracks and trees getting a confident foothold. It is always my intention to investigate more, but i believe the coal mining activity of nearby pits and bings infringed upon this ruin causing further destruction and a gradual infilling of the interior. Today, nothing much remains other than the last remnants of an outside perimeter wall.
