Bryan Kelly writes, “This is a photograph of my great great grandparents Francis (Frank) & Ellen Kelly (nee Watson) and their son Patrick (my great grandfather). They were both residents of 152 Glasgow Road, Blantyre from about 1917 to 1949 and prior to that 4 Rosendale Place. The family still occupied the residence until at least 1962.
They were married on 4th October 1903 at St Joseph’s and had 8 children. Both were widowed from previous marriages. All four of Frank’s children from his previous marriage had died in infancy. Ellen had lost two of three children from her previous marriage.
Frank was born in Blantyre on 31/01/1871 and died at 33 Burnside Crescent on 18/06/1949.
Ellen was born at Armadale on 27/02/1877 and was sadly killed when she was run over by a lorry on 3 June 1948 at the bottom of Elm Street, while she was with her grandson Pat Docherty. Pat survived however Ellen died in hospital from fracture of the skull.
I couldn’t find any newspaper article about the accident.
