Danny McKerrell, 1950

Like many of his generation, world war two took its toll on the playing careers of footballers. Danny McKerrell, a Blantyre man had enjoyed decades of success and was in the RAF serving in North Africa and Italy.

Pictured here in 1950, the former East Fife and Hamilton Accies left winger had become coach to Blantyre Vics and what a time to do so! The Vics were the whole of the west of Scotland’s ‘hope” for the Scottish Junior Cup.

In this photo from left to right, Danny gives some coaching advice to Gill, McCorkindale, Warre and Young during training,.

With thanks to Danny’s son, Norman for this photo and information.
