A world Apart

Could things BE any more different? Looking at this photo of Glasgow Road, nothing remains of these buildings anymore. Today this exact scene looks VERY different and will likely shock younger generations just how different Blantyre once looked.

Looking at the older photo, I’m reminded of once similar sized towns like for example Larkhall, which kept their tenements and today have a bustling, busy main street. There’s no doubt Blantyre has introduced green spaces and trees, which I’m sure in a generation will look quite majestic, but at what cost to business and retail?

  1. my da was a bookie at first behind mclaughlin’s pub at the top of john st the nbecause of legislation he had to get premises he got the wee shop next door to sandy thompson who had a newsagents my da’s bookies officeis in this photo ofglasgow rd across the road from the priory bar which was at the bottom of logan st we stayed in logan street my da’s name was wullie slaven
