Auchinraith House

Sheila Brown shared this great photo of another former grand house of Blantyre.

This is Auchinraith House, which was once situated just off Whistleberry Road. Sheila told, me, “Having found a photo of Auchinraith House, Blantyre, I believe that my grandmother, Mary Winter, was in service here around 1902. I attach the photo. Does anybody know of any books which include this house and the staff around this time?”

This brilliant photo pictured from the side shows another angle to Auchinraith House, one which clearly shows the basement level and given an idea of how large and how many rooms this house had.

Demolished due to subsidence, this yet another example of Blantyre’s grand homes and estates now long gone.
