Rev James E Hunter

It’s with much sadness that I learned of the sad passing of popular Blantyre minister, the Rev James E Hunter.

James, known as Jim, was the much respected retired minister of David Livingstone Memorial Church on Glasgow Road. He served there for 23 years from 1974 until 1997 retiring at age 70. He remained part of Blantyre life with his wife Kenzie, both of them loving community life in Blantyre.

I know his death will shock many people, given how well known and respected James was. He was a well known face around Blantyre and from my own experience, exuded kindness, intelligence and compassion.

His family writes, “Our dad, the Rev James Hunter passed away peacefully on Monday the 3rd of February. He was a dad, grandad, great grandad and even a great great grandad, better known to us all as grumps.”

“He was also known as ‘wee Mr Hunter’ and as minister he married so many couples, conducted many funerals and baptised hundreds of babies. He was loved by us all very much and it’s such a sad day. Our mum is so strong and dealing with things as well as can be expected. RIP dad/grumps.”

Funeral details have been released and take place on Thursday 13th February 2020 at Blantyre Old Parish at 11.30am then onwards to South Lanarkshire Crematorium for 12.30.

The family would like to thank the staff at Flemington care home for all the attention and care they provided.

My thoughts are with his family. Rest in Peace James.

Thank you to his family for this wonderful photo.
