On behalf of the following of this page, I went up to Auchentibber Memorial today and quietly placed a Blantyre Project ‘living poppy wreath’. It sits alongside the Auchentibber & Calderside Resident’s wreath.
The Memorial is looking majestic after being renovated last year. The newly planted weeping willow, flourishing. Behind it, the outline of the former quoiting green so apparent as foliage has died back for winter.
There’s something haunting about standing there, alone in silence, remembering a community once 500 people strong over a hundred years ago, now just a handful of homes. The passing of those young men must have deeply affected everybody living there.
Very much part of Blantyre’s history, their sacrifice and bravery is remembered today.

Was up in Auchentibber today which would have been my dad Peter Innes’s 90th Birthday, this is where he was born. It was a lovely day and lovely to walk around the area and imagine him playing in the fields there as a wee boy. Stopped to chat to some lovely men outside an old farm, xxx
