1980 Blantyre Round Table

Blantyre Round Table members, guests and friend are pictured in December 1980 raising their glasses for a local charity.

The tablers’ first ever wine and cheese party held in High Blantyre Public Hall was a great success. The celebrations were helped along by the knowledge that cash raised by ticket sales for the party would be going towards the organisations annual Christmas treat for older folk.

That treat did take place in the Miners Welfare Social Club when a meal and cabaret was laid on for Blantyre’s senior citizens.

When asked by reporters why the evening wasn’t called by the more traditional name of “Cheese and Wine” Party, the organisers admitted renaming it as “Wine and Cheese” just seemed a much more ‘honest and appropriate’ thing to do!
