Gordon Cook sent me this recently asking a good question….

He said, “This photograph is my background on my computer monitor. I’ve looked at it every day. I just noticed this chimney, I think it’s the Auchinraith Colliery chimney, what do you think?”

This is of course Main Street, High Blantyre looking eastwards towards Hamilton. I don’t think there were any other buildings in that direction although it could be the Auchinraith Bakery chimney? I dont think it was the Birdsfield Tile works, so I tend to agree, the mystery chimney from this 1920s photo, is likely Auchinraith Pit.
