Some sad new this evening. After an astonishing 22 years of successful trading in Blantyre, the popular and well known shop, “MARIE CURIE” is closing for good.

With no alternative units offered by landlords, management has had no choice but to make staff redundant, with their last planned day of trading next Saturday 28th April 2018.

Marie Curie have issued a thank you to the people of Blantyre exclusively telling us today, “Marie Curie would like to thank the Blantyre community for all of their support over the past 22 years and for helping to raise funds for the Marie Curie Nurses within the South Lanarkshire area. These funds were used to nurse patients who were suffering with any terminal illness. Also giving them the right to die at home if that’s what they wished.”

Annmarie Limerick Strang, Marie Curie District Manager for Scotland added, “I would love if we could relocate within Blantyre. But this doesn’t seem possible. As a District manager I’m upset that we have to make staff redundant. They will be a loss to the charity. The volunteers have decided either to retire or volunteer in our Hamilton shop.”

We’re sure you’ll all join us this evening in thanking all the hard working staff, for all their help these last 2 decades and wish them all the best for their future.

Perhaps this post may attract the attention of local businesses or businesspeople who are in a position to help Marie Curie? The closure of Marie Curie, Greggs next door is one of the last businesses left to relocate.

Meantime, a reminder about continued clothing donations. Residents wishing to continue supporting Marie Curie can phone 01355266802 and the drivers will pick any donations up. Or the nearest Marie Curie shop is in Quarry Lane, Hamilton.
