David was Chairman of the Strathclyde Old Age Pensioners Association and was attending this particular event in early March to launch Strathclyde’s new Travel Card scheme.

At the launch on Tuesday 7th March 1978, David said, “The Association is backing the scheme to the hilt. Despite the 1.5 percent increases to bus fares planned, I have obtained a guarantee that pensioners will still not have to pay any more than 3p for 10 miles of travel. “
