c1924 Andra McAnulty

I was surprised to read this article from October 1926, which told of Miner’s Champion and representative Andrew McAnulty being drunk in public. Andrew ‘s(Andra) endeavours to stand for the common miner would eventually lead to Stonefield Public Park or Low Blantyre Public Park for many, being renamed as McAnulty Park. This story was at a time of the great miners strike in 1926 as follows:

“Andrew Mark M’Anulty (66), miners’ agent, of Hardie Street, Blantyre, Glasgow, pleaded guilty at Bow Street, London, to-day to a charge of being drunk and incapable in St Andrews Street, Seven Dials, last night. was fined 5 shillings.”
