Mr. Anthony Viola was a local ice-cream merchant in the 1950’s. Tony Viola was a wholesale & Reatil ice cream manufacturer based at 92 Glasgow Road. In 1950 he catered especially for weddings and parties. His telephone number was Blantyre 122.
Do you remember Viola’s business in Blantyre? Can you tell me more?

ON social media:
Brian Weaver I remember it from the early 1950s when my uncle drove an ice cream van for them.
Jim Botterill He stayed at 37 Auchinraith Road
Emma Trevethan I remember it we’ll great ice cream. .
Joan Anderson Used to go for a cone when at our Dads shop
Gord Fotheringham Was that not in springwells……
Betty McLean A sunday night treat was going for sixpence worth of ice cream. We took our own dish and hurried back home to enjoy with one bottle of ginger shared between 8 of us.
Alister McInnes As far as I remember it was further up from Springwells – along from J Richardson the butcher and Forrest street. It was a café and my uncle used to take me in there for an ice cream. But then again I was only a kid and maybe mistaken. There was a café in Springwell’s next to Robertson’s soft drinks factory (Valerios ??) – I was born above it at 22 Glasgow road.
Margaret Duncan My father Peter Brogan was a great friend of Tony and looked more Italian than the Valerios and so was always taken for one of them.
