Thanks to Bill Duncan, who shared this photo of his friend John Duncan, holidaying in Arran in the 1950’s. John happened to be my own uncle, the brother of my mother. He went on to work in Rolls Royce, lived in Iona Path, with his wife Margaret and had a son also John and daughter Lorraine.(my cousins)

Bill told me, “I cannot remember a lot of detail of about the holiday. I think we stayed in Whiting Bay. The photo was taken at Whiting Bay with the Holy Isle in the background. “

That would be about right. I can recall my family in the 1970s always holidayed in Arran, their favourite places being Lamlash and Whiting Bay. I recall many childhood holidays looking out across to Holy Isle.

Duncan Slater I went to Calder street school with a John Duncan who lived , i think , in a building on Glasgow Rd. at Springwell.

John Duncan I worked with a john Duncan in the 1960 he was a meat inspector in Galloway’s ek was wondering if any connection

The Blantyre Project i think this John Duncan worked in Rolls Royce by that time.
