Whilst out walking the dog a few months back, I was reminded of a little public grass area near Kirkton Cross, which I thought I’d share here. Not so strange, but you could be forgiven for not knowing it exists, for it’s located behind gorse and bushes, can’t really be seen from the road and can only be accessed from behind the little road behind the pit monument. Here’s a photo of it, putting the area in context beside the pub and Kirk Care at Main Street.
More of an “out of place” oddity, this little grassy area is a legacy of the demolition of tenements in that area during the 1950’s. The area is well kept and would have made a good place for a seat or bench. Anyway, this is Kirkton’s little ‘secret’ garden.
