2013 Muiredge Primary School, Glasgow Road

Blantyre has officially got a new primary school (well certainly just for 2013 – 2015). Muiredge Primary School is located on Glasgow Road at the former St Josephs school building. The school signage is located near the Glasgow Road Pavement, just along from St Joseph’s Church Halls. South Lanarkshire Council officially had to move the Uddingston Primary School temporarily to Blantyre in October 2013, whilst their existing listed building in Uddingston, underwent internal and external alterations during 2015. The move is only temporary whilst building works continue on their existing premises.

The head teacher is Ms Mag Stewart. The school also accommodates a nursery class and is expected to move back to Uddingston later this year. Pictured are the pupils of Muiredge in 2013.

The former St Joseph’s old school building has been used for this purpose several times, most recently from Winter 2010 for a year whilst the David Livingstone Memorial Primary School was rebuilt in Coatshill and prior to that for the children of St Joseph’s themselves whilst a new school was built for them adjacent to it. In the last decade or so, Blantyre’s schools have all been demolished and rebuilt. Please be aware when you hear a well known Blantyre school name being mentioned, it probably is not the same building you may remember, but it likely is still in the same location.
