Kear Campus SEBN Secondary School, Bardykes

2015 Kear Campus Secondary School BardykesLocated on Bardykes Road, Blantyre, this secondary school provides education for children with social, emotional and behavioural needs (SEBN), on a full and part time placement. The £4m school commenced construction in August 2013 and the building was up and largely completed by Spring 2014. Up to 60 secondary aged pupils from all across South Lanarkshire attend.

This relatively new SEBN school was initially proposed for land adjacent to St Blanes, but this did not come to be. South Lanarkshire Council had to review their original proposals following objections from residents and parents of the additional needs pupils. Instead the new school, still sits on land that has a long history of education of children. The new school is something that ended up being appealing to the eye rather than an eyesore that was there for many years before, the building more commonly remembered as the Calder Remand Home.

Within the SEBN new school, there are six general classrooms includes special science, home economics, hair and beauty, IT, technical craft and multi-purpose classrooms as well as a dining room and changing and shower facilities. A separate ‘cottage’ provision which offers more intensive support is also located on site. A fitness suite and a floodlit third generation all-weather five-a-side pitch was built on the site and there is adequate vehicle and pedestrian access available from Bardykes Road.
