1927 Annie Main Marshall at Udston. Shared by J Cochrane

Jim Cochrane shared this family photo from 1927. Jim told me, “My Gran Annie Main Later Marshall in the middle and her brother Alec to the left and her older sister Christine to the left . This was taken at Little Udston Farm. 1927”

I think this picture more than hints at what a hard life it would be to maintain and work on these farms.

Udston Farm was just ever so slightly outwith Blantyre Parish. However, after Annie was married and became a Marshall, her new address was then Calderside Farm.

Marian Maguire told me on social media, “A lovely photo, Annie probably took it all in her stride although it was a hard life, she was a lovely lady and we had funny long conversations about farm life as all my family had been brought up on farms in ireland. Life was hard and money at that time very scarce, but they were all great characters, god rest you Annie.“
