1910 Auchintibber Inn, Sydes Brae

1910 Auchentibber Inn

1910 Auchentibber Inn

A previously unpublished photo taken around 1910. Here’s the Auchintibber Inn, pictured in the best clarity seen yet for this building. Photographed by Main Street man, David Ritchie this pub sat at the corner of Auchentibber Road and Sydes Brae (close to where the war memorial ended up).

The photo is clear enough to see the reflections of trees on the glass windows. The sign above the door looks new, and well it should for I was able to determine a few more things about this building, from this photo. It would appear by comparing this photo to a more common one from 1900, that the Inn was renovated in that decade. Stone skews were built on the roof, chimneys added and the building whitewashed, evident from this photo. Chimneys were certainly missing from older photos. At the back of this building was the Quoiting Green and beautiful Italian Gardens. I was recently told that Innkeeper and owner, JBH Struthers died in 1939, not from natural causes, but he had fallen down a well.  Thanks to Alex Bowie for sharing this photo.
