I received an enquiry on 22nd November 2014 from Isabell McGinty Cain asking, “Does anyone know what Burnbrae road was before they built houses on it i was told it was a old train track line?”
That is indeed the case. Burnbrae Road never used to be a road, it used to be a railway line. The mineral line for the Larkfield Colliery to be exact. Pictured here on this 1897 map, (highlighted with green dots) is the Burnbrae Mineral Line.
By the 1930’s the mineral line and indeed the colliery was no longer in use and with the tracks lifted, Burnbrae was then starting to be used as a track through the growing town.
