Jim Cochrane shared this photo with us, saying,Alex Main From Little Udston Farm my Great Uncle and Jim Marshall Calderside Farm my mums Brother. This picture was taken at RowantreeHill Farm Forth where the mains moved to when the Little Udston was taken over for building in 1927.

  1. Alex Main was my father and and talked about walking horses and cart from Udston to Rowantreehill when they moved. He was born in 1916 so would have been no more than 12 years old at the time. Jim Marshall was my eldest cousin and my father’s favourite nephew. He was, I think 15 years older than me. I was born at Loanhead Farm, Auchengray, which was taken on in 1938. both farms were worked as a unit. The mower behind the Fordson N tractor is a Bamlett, left hand cut, manufactured in the 1940’s. I used it in my teens and now own it and a 1943 Fordson wartime utility.
