Passing of Margo MacDonald

Sorry to hear about the sad passing today of MSP Margo MacDonald. She passed away after a lengthy battle against Parkinson’s Disease. She was 70. Margo was born in 1943 and lived in the East Kilbride area during her childhood. However, when she was 22 she married her first husband Peter MacDonald and the two of them ran the pub at Barnhill in

She had four children, one of whom Petra famously is married to Craig Reid of the Proclaimers.

Battling to the end, she had a private member’s bill before the Scottish Parliament seeking to allow terminally ill people the right to assisted dying.

Flags flew at half mast outside Holyrood, in which she served first as a member of the SNP and then as an independent nationalist MSP.

Jim Sillars said in a statement: “My wife Margo MacDonald died peacefully at home surrounded by her family today at 1.10pm.

margo“She leaves a void in our lives which will be impossible to fill and her death robs the Scottish nation of one of its greatest talents. She was without question the most able politician of her generation. Today the brightest light in the Scottish political firmament has gone out.
