Kirkgate at Craigmuir Road

craigmuirA 1984 competition amongst house builders to make their new homes look more “different” reached new heights in Blantyre when on 1st June 1984 Broseley Homes opened their new Jacobean themed homes in High Blantyre. The new housing development was a first for Blantyre fashioned upon an English heritage look fronted by traditional timbers. Provost Sam Casserly opened the site and potential residents flocked to buy them. Prices started from £30k up to a lofty £36k for the more spacious homes. So much sales interest was shown that Broseley decided to replicate their success in nearby Holytown.

Kirkgate is just off Main Street in High Blantyre. The homes lead up from Criagmuir Road and are all built on the exact site of the old High Blantyre Railway Station. Thirty houses are sited beside the Old Parish Church.

  1. Hi… Does anyone still have a copy of the original sales brochure from when Broseley built this site? I think they originally called it Mead Court. Please contact me if you can help.

    Thanks
