The Lido at Bothwell Bridge

lido1A remarkable photo exactly a hundred years old of the Lido at Bothwell Bridge. Taken in 1913, this photo shows a boy playing in the River Clyde during Summer months. This was a good 20 years before the park was built (now the EK expressway). On the Bothwell Bridge, to the far left stands a monument to the Covenanters following the battle at this site in 1679.

Two trams pass by each other in opposite direction on the bridge, one packed with outside passengers on the top deck, with just one inside. The scene is very peaceful by today’s standards although the bridge itself is still very familiar.
